Malyon College Library supports the educational programs of Malyon College. It exists primarily for the college faculty and students but also serves the wider community of Queensland Baptists. Members of the general public are also welcome in the library.

Library Hours

The library is open to the public:

Tuesday - Thursday 10:00am to 4:00pm

A librarian is usually available to help you use the library during these hours.

The library is closed on Public Holidays and between Christmas and New Year.

Library clients

Access to and borrowing of the library resources is included in the tuition fees of students enrolled at Malyon.

Other library clients (External clients) are welcome to consult the library resources on site for free. Borrowing privileges attract a $50.00 per semester fee and must be applied for.

Pastors accredited with Queensland Baptists, staff of the Queensland Baptists Gaythorne offices, accepted GiA candidates and CALAM Centre students may apply to be registered as a special category of External client, who are able to borrow library items without paying a fee.


The Internet

Internet access is available on the computers in the library. Each Malyon student is allocated a password for access (see the college office for this).

External users who have borrowing privileges may apply to have Internet access.

Note: Access to web-based databases requires Internet access.

Internet access is provided for study purposes. Please do not access any inappropriate sites online.


Word processing

Word processing is available on the computers in the library. Printing costs 10c per side printed and payment is currently made under an honour system to the librarian or the college office.

Please be considerate of others when using the computers. Don't leave your books, etc. sitting at the computer for long periods.


Discussion rooms

The general rule in the library is that work is to be done quietly. Two discussion rooms are available for collaborative work.

Photocopying

A photocopier is located in the Journals Room. Cost is 10c per side copied (whether A4 or A3). At present this is run on an honour system, please give your payment to the librarian or the college office.


Reserve

The Reserve shelf is in the Journals Room. Reserve items, which are recommended reading for courses or items in high demand, are for use in the library only - they are not for loan.


Searching the catalogue

You can search the catalogue using the 'Search' function. See 'Help' on the search screen for search hints.


Loans status

To check your loans status, select 'Login' in the top menu bar, then type your ID number in the Login Name box and your password in the Password box. Everyone's password is “password” until you log on, then you have the option to change it. Don't forget to log out when you are finished.


Doing business on-line

You can search the catalogue, check your loans, renew loans and reserve items over the Internet.


Interlibrary loans

Limited interlibrary loans are available to postgraduate students*, on request.


Borrowing

Loan periods for different borrowers are:

UNDERGRADUATES
- 6 items for 14 days
GRADUATES
- 10 items for 14 days
DISTANCE STUDENTS (in the categories above)
- an extra 7 days
EXTERNAL BORROWERS
- 6 items for 14 days
POSTGRADUATES
- 10 items for 28 days

Undergraduate students are those enrolled in BMin and BTh. Graduates are enrolled in MDiv, GDDiv and MPA. Postgraduates are enrolled in MAMin and MATheol.

RENEWALS are available if the item has not been reserved. Login to the library database and open My Account and Current Loans.


Holds

To place an item which is currently borrowed on hold, log into your library account and use the search function to find the book you want to reserve. Select the item using the checkbox on the left, view the selected records, then click on the 'Hold' link at the bottom of the screen. When that item is returned, it will be placed next to the returns computer. You will also receive a message by email or in your pigeonhole saying the item has been returned. You will need to borrow it as usual when you pick it up.
