On Tuesday evening we offer classes for students who find evening attendance more convenient. We offer one introductory unit and one elective unit each semester. Students can only attend one.
Evening lectures commence at 6.15pm and conclude at 9.00pm and will usually involve either three lecture sessions or two lecture sessions and a tutorial.
In Semester 2, 2010 we are offering the following units on Tue evenings:
1. NT302/502 - Early New Testament Church. This unit is basically an introduction to the book of Acts (the history of the early church) and the Epistles (letters written to the early churches). As we continue to rethink what form "church" should take in the 21st century, a grounding in the New Testament church is important. What did they believe? How did they do ministry? What problems did they face? The unit is taught by Rev Dr Charles de Jongh who is both a biblical scholar and a pastor.
2. EM324/524 - Principles of Evangelism. This unit provides an excellent biblical and practical introduction to evangelism. It looks at numerous questions and issues. For example: What is the gospel message? What is the connection between God's sovereignty and human freedom in evangelism? What hinders productive evangelism? Is everyone an evangelist? What is the role of an evangelist? How can I powerfully communicate my faith? What varieties of evangelism can be effective in different contexts? What about small group evangelism and mass evangelism? The unit is lectured by Dave Benson (see photo below) who is the pastor for evangelism at Kenmore Baptist.
