Malyon College
Malyon College is a tertiary theological training college. It offers degree and masters qualifications in theology, ministry, divinity and Christian studies. The College was established by and is subsidised by Queensland Baptist churches, but students come from a wide range of denominations. The College has an evangelical theology which means that in its teaching it regards the Bible as the authority for faith and practice.
The Malyon Mission
As you have probably seen on the website, our passion and calling is to develop Christians of influence. We believe that biblical understanding is vital to godly thinking, but we are not interested in just producing graduates with excellent biblical knowledge. We want our graduates tol make a difference for God by influencing others in the church and in the community. So our faculty are all Christian leaders and we emphasise both theology and ministry in our courses. Malyon is also heavily involved in establishing leadership networks to develop the next generation of Christian leaders.
Students
The student body is about 180 strong, with the majority being part-time students. Many are studying with a view towards preparing themselves for pastoral ministry or missionary service, but others are interested in developing their biblical understanding and/or their ministry skills so that they can serve more effectively as a Christian. There is a wide age range among the students with the youngest being 17 and the oldest in his 70s.
Courses
Malyon offers a wide range of courses as you can see if you click on the "Courses" button. Most stiudents without a prior degree are studying for a 3 year Bachelor of Ministry (BMin), and most of those with a prior degree (of any kind) are completing a 1 year GradDipDiv (Graduate Diploma of Divinity) or a 3 year MDiv (Master of Divinity). The GradDipDiv is actually the first year of an MDiv.
Accreditation
All the Malyon qualifications are accredited by the various State Education authorities via the Australian College of Theology (ACTh), a well respected Australian evangelical institution with thousands of students, that has authorised various affiliated colleges (including Malyon) to offer their awards in almost all States of Australia. This means that your degree will be well-recognised throughout the Christian and academic world, and that it is very easy to transfer your study to other places in Australia if that becomes necessary.
Modes of Study
Most students are studying in attendance mode. That is, they attend weekly lectures on campus. All lectures are offered on Tue, Wed and Thurs, so a full-time load will only require attendance on three days at the most. Some part-time students only study by evening lectures on Tue evenings when an introductory unit and an advanced unit are always offered. Some students study by distance mode. Malyon offers at least 8 units by distance and will continue to expand its distance offerings. A complete degree can be completed by distance using Malyons units and distance units from other ACT colleges. Some Malyon units are also offered by intensive mode.
Campus
The Malyon campus is situated at Mitchelton, close to shops and transport, yet in quite a secluded setting. The lecture rooms and library are air-condiitoned, and there is a large student floor with a chapel, eating area, kitchen, and recreation activities. All students are issued with a keycard which gives them 24/7 access to the carpark, student facilities and library. There is no permanent student accommodation on campus, but students have access to some overnight rooms where they can stay while attending lectures during the week.

Resources
Malyon College tries to provide students with excellent resources as would be expected at a modern tertiary institution. All lectures offer on-line resources that can be accessed on a website (see the link to Moodle). The library catalogue can be searched on-line and students can borrow books at any time. There are also numerous on-line journals available to assist with assignments and research. The campus has wireless internet access throughout, and many students bring their own computers to lectures.
FEE-HELP
Theological study is quite expensive (because there is no government subsidy) and most students choose to take advantage of the government loan scheme for private tertiary study (FEE-HELP). The study loans are repaid gradually through the tax system when a student or graduate is earning above a certain amount (at the moment about $40,000 a year). If the loans are not repaid, they are extinguished at death. All Australian citizens are eligible for FEE-HELP. Austudy may also be available for full-time students.
Non-Curricular Expectations
Malyon is not purely a tertiary instiitution; it is a community of growing Christians. All students are expected to attend chapel (Tue and Wed afternoon) if they have lectures around that time. Students are also expected to participate in at least two semesters of a faculty-led mentoring program and a week of team ministry somewhere in their course.

Postgraduate Study
Malyon offers postgraduate masters in ministry and theology. These are coursework masters for students who already have a theological degree. They are very popular among pastors and missionaries. All of the masters units are offered by one week intensives and some are also offered in distance/on-line mode.
